Water Heaters Repair & Replacements
We use our water heaters every day. They are a large piece of the puzzle in making a comfortable home. Signs your water heater might be going out or or may need service:
You run out of hot water quickly
No hot water at all
Hot water is not clear
Any sign of water surrounding your tank
Indicator lights flashing
Any type of weird smell
We have heard customers sometimes refer to a water heater as a “boiler”. A boiler is a completely different item often used for water furnaces, baseboard heating, and radiant floor heating.
Should you replace with a tank or a tankless water heater? Here are the main differences:
Tank Heaters
No need to upgrade electric or gas service
Less expensive than tankless
Delivers a steady flow of hot water
Downside - uses energy by heating water when you don’t need it.
Downside - It does have a limited capacity. Once you run out of hot water, it can potentially take an hour to reheat.
Tankless Heaters
Continuous hot water
Compact, able to fit in small spaces
On-demand heat can save on energy bills
Warranty is 4 years longer
Endless hot water
Downside- Initial cost is more than traditional tank heater
Expansion Tank
What is this funny looking little tank next to your water heater? An expansion tank aids in prolonging the life of your water heater.
When heating water, this water expands. In the situation that all faucets are closed, this “closed system” causes the water inside the water heater tank to need additional room to expand. The expansion tank takes the pressure off of the other items (such as faucets) in your home. In other words, the expansion tank takes the pressure so this pressure isn’t sent to faucets and the faucets become ruined.
